Laser Hair Removal By Celibré Medical

CelibréHaving more hair than you want is a very common problem.  The problem is in choosing how to get rid of it.   There are a myriad of options available for hair removal including laser hair removal, waxing, threading and electrolysis.  At Celibré, we offer laser hair removal rather than these other techniques for two reasons.  Laser hair removal is permanent and fast.  The only other permanent solution for hair removal, electrolysis is a very slow process whereby each hair is treated individually.  Laser hair removal has the same permanent hair removal results but is much faster because many hairs can be treated at one.

We understand that choosing a laser hair removal center is an important and difficult decision.  We’d like to offer a few tips on how to make sure you are going to be happy with your choice.  The first recommendation is always go to multiple consultations.  It’s only when you can compare and contrast different facilities that you get a sense for what’s important to you.  Make sure your laser hair removal facility is experienced and has the right equipment for you.  So often in the aesthetic business, the person doing your treatment does not have a lot of experience and is not using an ideal laser for you.  Because the industry is new and also because no specific training is required, your practitioner often may not have had any formal training on the laser being used.  In addition, different types of lasers are better suited for different skin types.  This means that if your laser hair removal provider is able to match your skin type with the correct laser, you’ll get better results.  Celibré Medical uses over 20 different lasers to ensure that the correct laser is used for each individual skin type.  In addition, we have provided over 75,000 procedures in the last five years alone.

It’s nice to have an understanding of what you’re in for if you do decide to have laser hair removal treatments so here is a quick description of the treatments.  During laser hair removal treatments, a cooling device will be placed on the skin to protect it.  This cooling device is used to protect the surface of the skin while the light energy of the laser penetrates into the skin and heat up the target, the bulb of the hair follicle.  As the laser fires during your hair removal treatment, you’ll feel a snapping sensation similar to that of a rubber band on the surface of the skin.

Types of Hair

Laser Hair RemovalThe type of hair you have is very important when considering the potential results of your laser hair removal treatment. If you have very thin, fine and blonde hair, your results can be very different than someone with thick coarse and dark hair.  Generally speaking, the larger, darker and thicker hairs are easier to remove permanently because they absorb more of the laser energy.

Causes of Unwanted Hair

Some people have more hair than others for reasons such as genetic, race, and sex, although additional hair can develop over time because of changes in our body, especially when these changes relate to hormone differences in women.  Even though most of our hair removal patients are women, there are also a significant amount of male patients that want to undergo laser hair removal treatments so it is not limited to

The Hair Growth Cycle

There are three different hair growth cycles.  They are anagen, catagen, and telogen. Our hair growth cycles are important because paying attention to them will help ensure that you observe better results in your laser hair removal treatment program.  During the resting phase (telogen) for hair, the hair is often not present.  Because the hair acts as the target for the laser energy, when it is not present hair removal cannot occur.  This fact is lost on most consumers but it is important for two reasons.  First, because your hair is not always present in the follicle, multiple treatments are necessary to make sure that the hair is treated enough so that it ceases to grow.  Secondly, for the best laser hair removal results, we try to approximately match the hair growth cycle of the area with the amount of time between treatments.  This optimizes the amount of hair removed.

How Laser Hair Removal Works

Laser Hair Removal works very simply.  Using laser light, we heat up the hair.  The heat developed from the laser light is absorbed mostly in the blub (or base) of the hair follicle.  As the base of the follicle heats up, it damages the small blood vessel that feeds the hair.  With several treatments we can close off this tiny blood vessel using thermal energy from the laser, causing the hair follicle to cease to reproduce.  When this happens, we get permanent hair removal.

Expected Outcomes

The expectations we set for our laser hair removal patients are as follows:
70% of laser hair removal patients get approximately 70% hair removal.
25% of laser hair removal patients get up to 95% hair removal.
And 5% of patients do not achieve these percentages and we do not know why.
